Debunking the Holiday Job Search Myth
| Debunking the Holiday Job Search Myth |
| by James Long Client Services Director One of the top myths of job searching is that no one hires during the holidays. And, in fact, this has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Many job seekers take a break from their search because they believe the myth! But the truth is, December is a great time to find a job in all areas of healthcare. Here’s just a few reasons to keep up your holiday job search: 1. First, you reduce the competition because your competition is busy buying into the myth! That means there’s less competition for you and a much greater chance for you to stand out from the rapidly disappearing crowd! 2. You have the opportunity to help people spend their budgets before the end of the year. Hiring managers, with new goals for the New Year, are eager to find people who can help them get the jump on their goals. If nothing else, many organizations interview in December for positions starting at the beginning of the year. 3. Companies don’t stop needing great employees just because it’s December 1. You never know when they’re going to have an opening, and often, they have their own end-of-year deadlines to meet and need additional staff to do it. 4. Networking opportunities are plentiful during the holidays, including holiday parties, professional networking events, and all kinds of social occasions. Even though you should tread lightly and make a point of gathering information, you should definitely let people know you’re looking. It’s also a great idea to send out a funny or entertaining Christmas letter that mentions your search and what you’re looking for. You never know where your next job lead might come from! |
